April Gardening

In the House
  • Fertilize and check all plants for Spider Mite, Aphid, Scale and Whitefly. 
  • Dead head any bulb plants that you have forced, fertilize and Transplantingallow foliage to die on it’s own.
  • Plant Pepper seeds, April 1st indoors.
  • Plant Tomatoes indoors, April 15th.
  • Transplant seedlings from flats to single plant containers.
 
For the Garden
  • Work your soil in the garden with a tiller or by turning it with a shovel.
  • Do any and all clean up of perennials.  Clean away dead materials only after you start seeing signs of life.
  • Plant Asparagus roots, potatoes and Rhubarb.
  • Plant the following cold crops.  Beets, Carrots, Chard, Kohlrabi, Leaf Lettuce, Onion Sets, Parsnips, Peas, Radishes, Spinach and Turnips.
For the Landscape
  • Uncover Roses, and apply a dormant spray
  • Plant any bareroot Pansiesperennials, trees or shrubs
  • Plant cold tolerant annuals in pots or containers on your porch, patio or deck, or in the landscape.
  • Reseed any damaged spots in the lawn
