Hardscape Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to construct a patio?
When constructing a patio, it is important to first construct your base. This is usually done with 6” of compacted gravel. It is important to consider the pitch of your patio so you can control where your water will flow. Next you screet a level layer of sand and place your pavers on top of that. A solider course is needed on the outside to hold the pavers in and snap edge is nailed in outside of the solider course.

Why should I choose pavers over stamped concrete?
One of the largest advantages of pavers to stamped concrete has to do with our climate. As we go through to the freeze thaw cycle, concrete expands and contracts, causing it to crack. A large crack though a beautifully colored, patterned and expensive walkway is a painful eyesore, and not an easy fix. You can’t just patch it the way you might plain concrete. All the pavers we install have a lifetime guarantee, but if one should come to crack, we just pull it out and replace it. If your surface heaves or sags we can come in and repair the damaged area and when we are done you cannot even tell we were there. Poured concrete is not that forgiving. Another advantage of pavers is the variety of textures and colors. Another advantage of pavers is the variety of textures and colors. Although you can stamp different patterns and colors on concrete there is certain uniformity to it. (this is known as paver quilting). It is possible to quilt different pavers together, getting a unique effect with colors and textures. There are also a variety of looks that can be created with pavers; old world, contemporary, cobble, modern, or classic.

Is snow removal difficult on pavers?
Actually no, snow removal on pavers is pretty much the same as on concrete. The pavers are jointed with a polymeric jointing sand and are secure. They are a concrete product and a snow blower will not hurt the pavers. On a drive made with paver the only precaution that we recommend you take is to use a rubber edge on the plows as to not scrape the pavers.
