20 Pond Myths Exposed

So I want to build a pond, what are the main components that I need?

There are five main components that you will need, falls and skimmer units (filter systems), Rubber liner, pump, Plumbing and fittings, Boulders and gravel.
Ecosystem = Filtration system, Rocks and Gravel, Re-circulation system (pumps and plumbing), Fish, and Aquatic plants.

What is a skimmer and why do I want one?

A skimmer has three functions. The first is to do what the name implies, it skims the surface of the pond. The skimmer pulls the surface tension of the pond water and any debris that is floating on top with it. There is a catch net housed in the skimmer box that catches all the debris so that is doesn’t sit at the bottom of the pond, decay and create sludge. The third function of the skimmer box is to house the pump for the pond. This eliminates having to climb into the pond to get at the pump, but keeps it hidden so it is not an eyesore!
